Allianz Scholarship
The Allianz Scholarship awards generous funding to qualified sophomore and junior applicants. Students must submit an application outlining their activities in the Mathematics Department and the actuarial science program.

The actuarial science degree program at the Å·ÃÀÎÞÂë of Å·ÃÀÎÞÂë is a Center of Actuarial Excellence and will build your ability to use mathematical, statistical, and economic methods to assess and manage risk while helping you develop successful careers in insurance, finance, and other related fields.

In addition to the core actuarial science courses, you complete classes in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, economics and communication. This interdisciplinary blend of courses will cultivate your knowledge and skills to be a flexible and nimble professional in a fast-paced industry capable of effectively communicating important strategic decisions.

Many of our students complete two or more professional actuarial exams by graduation. How do they achieve that? Group study sessions with their peers and exam reimbursement. In addition, our program is connected to the local actuarial community in the Twin Cities through our external advisory board and dedicated alumni that provide various enrichment and collaboration opportunities for students.

Professor Falconbury joined the Å·ÃÀÎÞÂë of Å·ÃÀÎÞÂë in 2022 and became the Director of the Actuarial Science program in 2023. Prior to joining academia, Kyle was an actuarial leader at two Fortune 100 companies. He is excited to share his real-world knowledge of the insurance industry and his enthusiasm for actuarial science with the next generation of industry leaders.ter.
A pure mathematician by training, Dr. Axtell has become active and knowledgeable in various aspects of actuarial science. For example, he regularly completes the actuarial exams so he can prepare students for them. He also enjoyed being (probably) the oldest intern Travelers Insurance has ever had during the summer of 2015!
Actuarial science allows you to pursue multiple career paths after graduation.
Actuarial science majors are able to apply for multiple scholarships throughout their undergraduate career at Å·ÃÀÎÞÂë.

Seniors majoring in mathematics or actuarial science are eligible for this scholarship. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA or higher. In addition, their involvement in the Mathematics Department will be considered as well.
This scholarship, based on financial need and academic merit, is for juniors and seniors eligible for work in the United States. Students must have at least a 3.2 GPA or higher.
Dr. Seul ki Kang's interests include actuarial mathematics, extreme value theory in finance and insurance, statistical modeling of finance and insurance losses, econometrics, nonparametric statistics, empirical likelihood methods, Bayesian statistics, computational modeling, and uncertainty quantification
Dr. Tang explores the theory of interest, and teaches courses focusing on calculus for business and the social sciences.
Dr. Mike Axtell is an Algebraist with research in the areas of Commutative Ring Theory and Graph Theory. He has published in several journals including, Communications and Algebra and Mathematics and Computer Education. He is also an active member of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and currently serves as a member of the MAA Notes editorial board.
